Help Us Save The Elephants!

Dr. Norm’s and Cannabis Now Create Project Bake

Dr. Norm’s and Cannabis Now have teamed up to create Project Bake to work with Elephant Cooperation and their partners all over Africa to create sustainable programs through the development of bakeries to provide economic support for communities.

Elephant Cooperation is a 501(c)3 grant-making organization with the mission to save elephants in Africa. EC has found that the best way to save elephants is to support the communities that surround National parks with programs and education.

The biggest risk to the elephant population in Africa comes from animal trafficking syndicates who target people in these communities because they are vulnerable, desperate and uneducated.

The people in these communities are from low income households who are desperate to feed their families and, as such, are often willing to take work poaching elephants making them ripe targets for poachers.

Elephant Cooperation finds partners in communities neighboring the parks who will provide programs to help their communities generate steady income so that they don’t need to turn to poaching to feed their families.

In addition, by working with schools and children in poverty stricken communities it provides the ability to educate children about conservation and wildlife while empowering them to better their lives so they don’t turn to poaching.

One of Elephant Cooperation’s partners is Amson Education Center in Mathare, Kenya, a school where more than 280 students are enrolled. This flagship program (funded by Elephant Cooperation) is designed to educate and empower children in the Mathare slum where the students are given three meals a day.

By providing nutrition it helps alleviate the family’s stress of providing food for their children as well as an incentive for families to encourage their children to attend school and get educated.

On the grounds of the school, Amson Education Centre built a small bakery called Vinmark Bakery. This is a small business that helps fund the school with profits made from the goods they produce.

Dr. Norm’s and Cannabis now have created Project Bake to work with the school and Vinmark Bakery to upgrade the facility and teach the children business and baking skills.

Our goal is to encourage entrepreneurship and to create sustainable business models that will provide economic support in the community so these families will no longer have to turn to poaching.
